The Soil Knowledge Broker Service (or SKBS)
is a pilot initiative of the Catchment Knowledge Exchange (CKE) Project. The trial will run until mid-2007, with its primary purpose to test the utility of knowledge brokering across Victoria's catchment management framework. It will function to improve the flow of information and knowledge so that, across Victoria, we can work towards more sustainable management of the soil resource, using best available advice and information. To achieve this, the SKBS will deal with a range of soil health topics, including soil management, inventory,
capability, physical processes, measurement, reporting and risk.
The Soil Knowledge Exchange, as presented on this website, is the web component of the SKBS. It
provides an aggregation of knowledge resources and links related to
soils, as well as being a portal linking the soils community. Its
function is to support and complement rather than substitute for other
soils web resources.
However, the SKBS is more than just a web interface. The most critical part of the Service is that provided by the Soil Knowledge Broker, whose role is to connect people to share and exchange knowledge across the catchment community. The Soil
Knowledge Broker can be contacted through this website, by e-mail or by telephone.
Given the trial nature of this Service, another important task is an evaluation of the utility and outcomes of the SKBS. In turn, this will inform the outcomes of the CKE Project as a whole.
The Soil Knowledge Broker Team behind the SKBS encourages enquiries and
suggestions of all types and from all places regarding your experience
of the knowledge broker concept.
