Discussion Board - Getting Started |
|
|
The function of the Discussion Board
The Discussion Board is a place to have
interactive conversations about soils. It is here so that questions,
experiences, tools, information and knowledge can be shared and
discussed. We hope that this facility is used in a constructive and
positive manner, and that the views of all individuals are respected.
When particular discussions have run
their course the Knowledge Broker Team will synthesise them into succinct knowledge statements that will be presented back
to the soils community for further review and iteration.
Arrangement of information and access to it
Topics in this Discussion Board are arranged in a hierarchy comprising categories (e.g. technical
discussion), forums (e.g. soil health) and threads (e.g. soil health
- what is it?). A thread is where the actual discussion takes
place. A non-registered user can see all information that is posted
in a particular thread. However, a user must be registered to post a
reply to a thread or to create a new one. Only an administrator (i.e.
the Knowledge Broker) can create a new category or forum. We would encourage you to submit your ideas about these, or
about how we currently have things arranged.
To get started
Many of the features and options in the Discussion Board are reasonably self-explanatory, but the following
should help to quickly get started. The best thing is to take
some time to experiment.
- To view threads click on the forum of
choice (forums are classified under categories).
- To reply to a thread, scroll to the base
of the page and select the 'reply'
option. There is a box to place your message, as well as provision
for adding an image or file. You can 'preview'
your post before hitting 'submit' to place it in the thread.
- You
can e-mail subscribe to receive all replies made in a particular thread.
Look for the 'subscribe to this topic' option after you have clicked
on a particular forum or thread.
- If you want to post
a new thread there is a 'post new topic' option visible when you are
looking in a particular forum or thread.
- To invert the order of posts go to 'my
profile' and select one of two options - your preference might be to
order with last post first.
